Conversion process

While the conversion process is quite simple, we are often asked to elaborate.  Of course, Paragon has been working on railroad equipment for many, many years so working with tons of metal always seams easy to us.

Selection
We buy a lot of various railroad equipment from a wide variety of sources.  Whenever we purchase a railroad flat car we will have it inspected to ensure it is structurally sound.  If there are any doubts about a railcars usefulness, we will error on the side of caution and have the railcar shredded.  Once we determine that a railcar is suitable we will then move it to storage.

Storage
There are two basic forms of storage.  We can either leave the railroad flat car on its own wheels or strip it down and store it on the ground.  The benefit to storing railcars on their own wheels is that the storage cost is significantly lower than using valuable shop space.  Plus, we can have the railroad move a railcar on its own wheels to another location with little effort.  The down side is that once the railcar is sold, we still need to bring it into our shop (or a sub-contractors shop), strip it down then load it up on a truck.  The benefits to storing railcars in the shop is a very quick delivery time.  The down side is cost.  We usually only keep railcars stripped down in areas we think the bridge structure will be needed.  See our NETWORK page for more information.

Engineering
Not all bridges require engineering so we only engineer bridges that require such work.  This helps keep your cost down.  This would probably be a good time for you to visit our ENGINEERING page for more details.

Custom Work
This one of the items that really sets us apart from others.  We have spent a considerable amount of time and resources refining this process so we treat this information as proprietary and confidential.  Take a look at some of our PROJECTS to see the finished product.

Shipping
Once an order is accepted, we quickly determine which unit would be the best fit for your project and we schedule a truck to pick up your bridge and ship it directly to you.  We utilize third party carriers for most deliveries so we are at their mercy...but we have an excellent network of truckers that makes this process easy.  Some clients are impressed by us including delivery in our bridge structure prices as trucking these units does not appear to be an easy process...especially when several permits are usually required (over width and over length are the two most common).  To be quite honest, the trucking companies do all of the hard work.  We just have a good historical price matrix for previous loads to ensure our costs are being covered.

Unloading
Your Paragon bridge structure will arrive to your job site ready to be set in place.  Keep in mind that our delivery trucks are not all terrain vehicles.  We will get as close as safety possible.  Your crane will need to pick the bridge structure up, let our truck drive out from underneath it, then you are ready to set the bridge in place.  More information about the actual CONSTRUCTION process can be found on that page.
